First and Foremost
ORMO® was the first bakery in Ireland to:
- Bake soda bread, previously only domestic (1907)
- Have a fully automatic bread making plant (1927)
- Wrap bread (1929)
- Deliver products by a fleet of electric vans (1935)
ORMO® has been a key part of the Belfast bakery landscape since 1875 when Robert Wilson opened the bakery on the Ormeau Road. His absolute commitment to product quality, taste and innovation has remained at the heart of the brand’s DNA today.
Innovation is crucial to any brand’s success and ORMO®, since its conception, has put this to the forefront of the brand. In Ireland, ORMO® baked the first automatically cooled and wrapped bread and delivered them by the first all-electric delivery service.
In 1875, the use of Northern Irish ingredients was important to achieve a great taste and quality for the ORMO® products. It also supported local farms across Northern Ireland at that time. Today we use ingredients from both Northern Ireland and Great Britain ensuring maximum taste and quality every time. Some of the ingredients coming from Northern Ireland include Eggs, Buttermilk and the fresh Champ and Mash.
